Numerical simulation can be very useful in biomechanical studies, as it is often difficult or impossible to take in vitro measurements of such things as contact pressures within joints, reaction forces, and tensile or compressive forces within connective tissues. RecurDyn is highly suited to these simulations, as its high performance and robust contact modeling capabilities enable accurate simulations of the interaction between complex-shaped structures within the body, and nonlinear forces representing tendons and ligaments can be easily modeled. MotionPort currently supports research into using simulation to improve the outcome of knee repair surgeries, individualized to each patient by using imaging data of their bones to create the geometry within the simulation models.
