A method to predict the derailment of rolling stock due to collision using a theoretical wheelset derailment model

J.S. Koo, H.J. Cho, Multibody System Dynamics, April 2012, Volume 27, Issue 4, pp 403-422.

RecurDyn simulations provide verification for a theoretical wheel derailment model. The RecurDyn model agreed well with the theoretical model in predicting wheel derailment. RecurDyn can reduce the amount of time spent on testing by providing a good virtual prototype that can be used to test design decisions.

Power loss analysis of tracked travelling unit of high-speed tracked vehicle

Zhifu Wang, Liu Bin, Yihui Zhao, IEEE Conference and Expo Transportation Electrification Asia-Pacific (ITEC Asia-Pacific), Beijing, August 2014, pp 1-4.

RecurDyn is used to model and simulate a rear-propelled track vehicle. This simulation was able to identify the relative importance of several power loss mechanisms and graph these loss mechanisms over time. Sprocket loss and impact loss make up the majority at high velocities. With this information, design improvements can be made that focus on sprocket loss and impact loss.
