Moving Particle Simulation (MPS)

Particleworks is based on the Moving Particle Simulation (MPS) formulation, which was invented by Dr. Seiichi Koshizuka, professor at the Department of System Innovation at the University of Tokyo and co-founder of Prometech Software, Inc. The method is especially useful for simulations that involve free fluid surfaces and incompressible liquid flow. It represents the fluid as a large collection of particles, and therefore does not require a complex mesh. In addition, the method achieves very high computational efficiency through the use of gradient and Laplacian models of the Navier-Stokes equations, which are the fundamental equations of fluid dynamics.
